Bilingual Spanish Community Counselor

HANA Center (HANA) is a Chicago-area non-profit organization working to meet the critical needs of Korean, Asian American, and multiethnic immigrant communities and build power toward systemic change. HANA has offices in Chicago and Prospect Heights, Illinois.

HANA’s Community Wellness program utilizes a culturally rooted, strengths-based approach to support Korean American and diverse multiethnic immigrant community members to cope with various forms of stress and trauma, improve overall mental wellness, and enhance their family and community support systems. HANA’s counseling staff are bilingual and bicultural, including licensed clinicians and masters-level clinical interns.

The Community Counselor is responsible to provide comprehensive crisis intervention, case management, counseling, and referrals for immigrant community members and families experiencing a wide range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, acculturation stress, interpersonal conflict, substance abuse, and instances of community crime, domestic violence, and/or sexual assault.

Major Responsibilities:

• Provide on-site and remote crisis intervention, counseling, and case management for immigrant community members, including adults, older adults, youth, and families
• Support community members to develop and achieve their care plans
• Facilitate internal and external referrals for community members to legal advocacy, behavioral health specialists, and a range of comprehensive community supports
• Provide group counseling and peer support spaces for community members
• Facilitate workshops and educational events to raise awareness about, domestic violence, sexual assault, and violence against marginalized people, and community-driven policies and organizing campaigns toward increasing safety and wellness
• Participate in coalition groups and meetings on behalf of HANA Center
• Ensure timely completion of grant and outcomes reporting
• Maintain excellent record-keeping; ensure client confidentiality and integrity of data collected
• Stay up-to-date with emerging best practices and industry standards, facilitating organizational training and sharing of resources as needed
• Provide supervision for clinical interns as assigned
• Other duties as assigned

Key Qualifications:

• Demonstrated commitment to immigrant rights and social, racial, and economic justice
• Belief in communities’ ability to support each other, heal, organize, and achieve desired goals together
• MSW degree required
• Minimum one year of counseling, crisis intervention, case management, or related experience in a diverse setting preferred
• Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English required
• Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
• Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects
• Attention to detail and accuracy and track record of meeting deadlines
• Basic computer proficiency required; experience with Microsoft Word and Google suites preferred
• Ability to think creatively and independently; commitment to learning
• Ability to motivate and inspire team members to take initiative, problem solve, and innovate
• Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends, as needed
• Completion of 40 hours of Domestic Violence Training (can be post-hire)
• Completion of annual online Mandated Reporter DCFS Training (can be post-hire)
• Valid driver’s license, car insurance, and access to a car
• Covid vaccination and boosters (when eligible) required

Reports To: Executive Director

Compensation: This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range of $50,000-$60,000 and benefits that include paid time off, health, dental, vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, life, and 401K.
