Keynote Address by Kaitlin Sidorsky “The People Behind the Research”
Every day there are thousands of domestic violence incidents in the United States, yet many do not see or understand the range of people domestic violence affects. This includes the survivors, victims, lawmakers, policy implementers, researchers, service providers, and advocates. Some of these individuals remain invisible to policymakers and researchers due to their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, immigration status, and gender identity. Others are the people working tirelessly behind the scenes to address domestic violence and provide for those in need. In this session we will discuss each of the groups behind domestic violence research and policymaking from an intersectional perspective. We will discuss action items and strategies to reduce the gaps in domestic violence research, policies, and services, and how the people in different domestic violence sectors can work more cohesively to address domestic violence in the United States.
