Engaging Immigrant, Refugee, and Migrant Survivors and Communities
Apna Ghar is a leader in survivor language access and cultural humility. In this interactive session, Apna Ghar staff will lead participants in a resource sharing activity so that everyone leaves with tools and strategies to address these questions:
-Which immigrant refugee or migrant (IMR) communities are we struggling most to serve?
-Which languages do we most struggle to find an interpreter for?
-Where can we find good resources on GBV in other languages?
-How do we develop a language access plan? Is there a shortcut or template we can use?
-What can I do to ensure the interpreter is doing a good job?
-How can we find GBV survivor service terminology for providing testimony or completing intake in another language? Our bilingual staff and interpreters don’t know how to say things like “sex trafficking” or “preferred pronouns”.
